Possum in the Henhouse

Last night there was a possum in the henhouse. I chased it all over with a stick to try to get it to leave, but it was very sleepy and cranky and just wouldn't go. As you can see, American opossums are not terribly lovely creatures.

The chickens were all ready for bed themselves. Odo always takes a spot on the top roost.

He likes to supervise all the goings-on.

Finally I grabbed the unruly possum and threw him out in the snow. It did try to bite me, but I had thick gloves on. I don't think it would bother the birds, but I have heard that they like to eat eggs. So I decided No Possums in the Henhouse.

We are about to leave for New York for the holidays. Yay! Coming back to the farm on the 29th. My mom and dad will be taking care of the birds and llamas and cats. Thank goodness for that. I'll do my best to check in with y'all form the Big Apple.

Happy hollydays to one and all!

I had a possum under my gazebo this spring, and it didn't want to leave, either!

She finally was found, dead, in my backyard with all her little babies clinging to her (also already dead). I am SO glad she didn't survive with all those little ornery 'possums under my gazebo!

Nice pictures of yours!

Enjoy NY!

Come visit me when you get back!

Merry Christmas to you and hubby! (and of course the critters.. and especially Pepper!! I'm not partial.. noooooo... lol) Eat lots of bagels for the rest of us misplaced Yankees ok? Oh yes.. I would have shot that little bastard with an Airsoft pellet gun.. but that's just me. Enough to let him know he doesn't want to come back but not enough to kill him.

Possums are protected here and I think we have one in the roof at the moment because I hear it galumphing around above my head at night!

We have two types of possum, brush tail and ring tail, and they look different to yours. Anyway, glad you got it out of the chook house. No, it wouldn't hurt the chooks but yes, it would be very partial to the eggs.

Have a wonderful time in New York.

That is a really annoyed looking possum. I'm glad it didn't bite you.

We had one that moved into a hole in our carport wall when I lived in Georgia. We couldn't reach in to remove it and so we had to wait until we saw it leave the hole to block it up. It took weeks to get rid of the thing.

Have a good time in New York.
